McQueen's Island Trail
A scenic 6-mile rail-trail running along the south channel of the Savannah River, offering flat, easy walking and biking through beautiful coastal marsh landscapes. The trail provides excellent birdwatching opportunities and occasional dolphin sightings.

The surface is a mix of packed dirt and crushed limestone, so road bikes with thin tires are not recommended—rent fat-tire beach cruisers instead. Parts of the trail occasionally wash out during king tides, so check the Chatham County website for trail closure alerts before renting bikes for the whole family.

Cockspur Island Lighthouse
A charming small lighthouse built in 1849, standing in the shallow waters near Fort Pulaski. While the lighthouse itself is not open to the public, it can be viewed up close by kayak or boat tour, making for an adventurous family excursion.
