St. Simons Lighthouse & Museum
Standing as a sentinel over the St. Simons Sound since 1872, this active lighthouse and its Victorian-era keeper's cottage provide a deep dive into the island's maritime history. The 129-step climb rewards the energetic with a 360-degree view of the Golden Isles and the Atlantic.

SCOUT LOGISTICS
The spiral staircase is narrow; for groups of 20+, we recommend a staggered entry protocol. While half the group climbs, the others can explore the Keeper’s Cottage museum. Secure a group reservation 3 weeks out to ensure the gift shop and museum can accommodate your full party simultaneously.
East Beach at Massengale Park
East Beach is the island's most popular stretch of sand, and Massengale Park serves as its primary access point for large groups. With its wide-reaching shoreline, it's perfect for beach games, kite flying, or simply watching the shrimp boats on the horizon.
SCOUT LOGISTICS
Massengale Park offers the island’s best group beach infrastructure. You must reserve the picnic pavilions via Glynn County Parks & Rec exactly 180 days in advance. This provides a shaded "home base" for seniors while the younger generation hits the waves. Sprinter van parking is available but fills by 10 AM.

Fort Frederica National Monument
Travel back to 1736 at this archaeological site where General James Oglethorpe established a British fort to protect Georgia. The live oaks draped in Spanish moss and the tabby ruins create a majestic, educational atmosphere for a morning stroll.
SCOUT LOGISTICS
The terrain is mostly flat and ADA accessible, making it ideal for multi-generational walks. If your reunion exceeds 25 people, contact the National Park Service 14 days prior for a dedicated ranger-led group tour. Note: Motorcoach drop-off is restricted to the visitor center loop only.
Pier Village & St. Simons Pier
The social heart of the island, Pier Village is packed with boutiques, ice cream shops, and restaurants. The nearby pier is a favorite for fishing and watching the massive cargo ships navigate the channel toward Brunswick.
SCOUT LOGISTICS
Parking in the Village is notoriously tight. Advise your group to use the Neptune Park overflow lot. For group dinners, Mallery Street restaurants require reservations at least 48 hours in advance for parties over 10. The pier area is perfect for a "free roam" hour where families can explore at their own pace.
Christ Church, Frederica
One of the oldest churches in Georgia, this Episcopal parish is surrounded by an ancient cemetery where island legends are buried. The Gothic architecture and peaceful grounds offer a moment of reflection amidst the excitement of a reunion.
SCOUT LOGISTICS
Interior tours are limited to specific hours (usually Tuesday-Sunday afternoons). Remind your group that this is an active parish; respectful silence is required. Large buses should drop off passengers at the front gate and park at the nearby Fort Frederica lot to avoid blocking the narrow Frederica Road.
Maritime Center at the Historic Coast Guard Station
Located at the historic U.S. Coast Guard Station at East Beach, this museum features interactive exhibits on the coastal environment and WWII history, including the U-boat activity that once occurred off the Georgia coast.
SCOUT LOGISTICS
This is an excellent indoor "rainy day" contingency for your reunion. They offer a significant group discount for parties of 15 or more. The facility is climate-controlled and features plenty of seating, making it a comfortable option for older family members who need a break from the heat.
Avenue of Oaks
One of the most photographed locations in the Golden Isles, this double row of massive, 160-year-old live oaks once served as the entrance to Retreat Plantation. The "Reunion Angle" here is purely aesthetic—it is the quintessential backdrop for a large family portrait that captures the timeless beauty of the South.
SCOUT LOGISTICS
The Avenue is now the entrance to the Sea Island Golf Club. While you can drive down the avenue, stopping or parking on the road is strictly prohibited. For your group photo, park at the Lodge at Sea Island and walk back to the designated viewing area. Early morning light (before 9 AM) provides the best "cathedral" effect through the Spanish moss.
