Grand Traverse Bay Beaches

Clinch Park beach is free to access and open from 6 AM to 11 PM with metered parking along Grandview Parkway at $2 per hour and a city lot at Cass Street holding 80 vehicles at $10 per day. The beach has an ADA-accessible boardwalk and a Mobi-Mat pathway to the water available from the lifeguard station Memorial Day through Labor Day on request. Summer peak season from June through August brings heavy tourism traffic so book nearby lodging at least 10 weeks in advance for reunion groups and arrive at beaches before 9 AM to secure waterfront space.

Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore

Groups of 12 or more should use the Philip A. Hart Visitor Center in Empire for orientation and to pick up group permits required for organized activities. The Dune Climb trail is a sandy ascent not suitable for wheelchairs but the Pierce Stocking Scenic Drive has 12 paved ADA-accessible overlooks with panoramic views of Lake Michigan and the Manitou Islands.

Old Mission Peninsula Wine Trail
Drive the scenic 18-mile peninsula featuring award-winning wineries, cherry orchards, and the historic Old Mission Lighthouse. Many wineries offer family-friendly atmospheres with outdoor seating and beautiful vineyard views. The peninsula provides stunning bay views from both sides.

Tasting fees range from $8 to $15 per person at each of the 9 wineries along the 18-mile peninsula with most offering group discounts of 15 percent for 10 or more guests when reservations are made 1 week in advance. The harvest season runs from August through October and most tasting rooms are open year-round though winter hours are reduced from November through April due to lake-effect snow that can make the narrow peninsula road hazardous. Most tasting rooms are ADA accessible at ground level with parking lots of 30 to 50 spaces each and designated driver programs available at no charge.

Downtown Traverse City & Front Street
Stroll through the charming downtown area with unique shops, art galleries, and excellent restaurants. The area hosts festivals throughout the year, including the famous National Cherry Festival in July. The historic State Theatre and numerous dining options make it perfect for reunion group activities.

Street parking is metered at $1.50 per hour with a 3-hour limit and the Hardy Parking Garage on State Street holds 450 vehicles at $1 per hour making it ideal for reunion groups spending a full day downtown. Most shops and restaurants on Front Street are ADA accessible at street level with curb cuts at every intersection and accessible restrooms in the City Opera House building. The Cherry Festival in early July and Film Festival in late July draw over 500000 visitors each so avoid these 2 weeks for reunion scheduling unless tickets are booked 3 months ahead.
